Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) includes both:

Mediation

A process in which a neutral third person, a mediator, acts to encourage and assist in the resolution of a dispute between 2 or more parties, and

Arbitration

A process in which a neutral third person called an arbitrator considers the facts and arguments presented by the parties and renders a decision.  The decision may be binding or non-binding as provided by the ADR Rules.
